Legal Expenses Insurance
The first thing to do if you have suffered damages and think you are dealing with a small claim is to check your insurance policies. You should specifically look to see if any of them have a policy of Legal expenses Insurance attached. This may be on anything from your home insurance to your pet, credit card or mobile phone insurance!
Legal expenses insurance policies used to cover all eventualities. They then realised that dealing with small claims cost them money instead of making it. A fair percentage of insurers therefore excluded small claims from their policies.
If you think your insurance may cover your claim then you should contact them to report the matter. Where it is covered they may deal with the claim themselves or appoint solicitors to act for you. Do not be surprised if you get a trainee solicitor or someone who is unqualified.
Where you are not covered by Legal Expenses Insurance you will have to deal with the matter yourself and should go to the next page of our guide.
