Head Injury Guide

Head injuries covers a fairly broad field including brain damage, skull fractures and injury induced epilepsy.  his section of our website focuses on skull fractures.  For more information on brain injuries please follow this link.

The Guidelines for compensation do not deal with skull fractures as a separate class.  This is because they are often associated with brain injury or damage to the facial bones.  Where this is the case the injuries are dealt with in one award which is more linked to the severity of the brain or facial injury, not the skull fracture.

Damage to the underlying frontal facial bones is dealt with under the Le Fort classification system.  Less severe injuries can include a broken nose, jaw or cheekbone, as well as damage to the teeth.

What to look for

These injuries are usually diagnosed in hospital.  They are normally associated with damage to the skin and can be fairly easy to spot.

How much?

By way of indication, but by no means definitive as every injury is different in at least some respect, some awards (updated to take into account inflation) which have been given in the past are shown below.

2 Broken nose or nasal complex £1,125 to £15,200
