Domestic Violence Advice

Domestic Violence AdviceWhen looking for domestic violence advice it is importnat that you remember that domestic violence can take mental, as well as physical, form.  If you are subjected to a physical assault or abuse then, dependent on the level of assault or abuse, you should be either:

  • Calling the police; and/or
  • Seeking medical attention, either from hospital in urgent cases or your GP; and/or
  • Moving out of the house, even if only temporarily; and/or
  • Taking photos of any injuries; and/or
  • Keeping any abusive texts, e-mails or messages sent to you; and/or
  • Keeping a diary of events.

Where you are subjected to constant harassment you should keep a diary of events to paint the overall picture.  Keep copies of any texts or e-mails that you receive.

Domestic Violence AdviceOnce you have decided to take action then, unless your personal safety is at immediate risk, you should seek discreet legal advice before doing anything.  Where you are worried for your safety if your partner or spouse finds out what is going on you should seek urgent legal assistance with a view to obtaining an injunction against the other person.  This is particularly the case where they are arrested, as the police can often only hold them for a limited amount of time.

In addition to obtaining an injunction you should also consider bringing a claim for any personal injury sustained.  We are happy to run personal injury claims on a no-win, no-fee basis at no costs risk to you.
