Our History
Our history goes back to the 1960's and the establishment of a specialist Divorce and Family practice.
Richard Clarke studied with one of the authors of the Children Act 1989 and the Children and Young Persons Act 1969, Professor HK Bevan, as part of his law degree. He then qualified as a Barrister in 1992 and had a busy family practice before cross qualifying as a Solicitor in 1997. Having headed the family and civil litigation departments of a high street practice based in Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire he then became Managing Partner of a family and personal injury law firm before setting up his own practice.
Nick Routh is a former trainee of Richard's and a fellow partner in Routh Clarke Solicitors. Having initially trained as a barrister and cross-qualifying as a solicitor, Nick has become more focussed on the trusts and inheritance planning aspects of family law.
Richard has considerable Court room experience and is an elite Higher Courts Advocate, with the same Court rights as Barristers and QC's. He also sits part time as a Judge with a Family and Civil Jurisdiction. Nick is an experienced advocate and regularly assists Richard on his cases as well as running his own caseload.
The background and driving force as trial lawyers gives us an unusual focus, namely getting cases either to an acceptable and fair settlement quickly, efficiently and economically or, where negotiations stall or dishonesty is suspected, gathering together the best evidence to put before the Court.
With usyour team is not a Solicitor with a Barrister coming in at the last minute, but a Solicitor and Barrister from day one. Our clients regularly choose to have us represent them at Court rather than have a barrister instructed late in the day who does often has to try and get up to speed very rapidly.
