What we can do for you

We can be as involved or hands-off as you decide. We can be instructed to advise at the start of a project, including preparation of contracts, called in during a project to advise on problems that are arising or asked to help sort out issues at the end.

When can we help?

We can assist at any stage of the process and be as involved as you wish:

First instruction and preparation of contracts. We can assist with drafting contracts before works commence. We can review contracts which have been prepared for you and advise on your risk.

Any stage during the life of the project. Is the project not proceeding as you had expected? Are there changes you did not anticipate? Have you fallen out with your construction industry professional? We can review the contract and works completed and give you clear advice on what to do next.

At the end of the project should disputes arise. Is the project finished but not what you expected? Has the work been done to a low standard? Have the wrong materials been used?  Is the finish poor?  Have items been left incomplete?  We can assist with resolving your dispute or starting legal action on your behalf.

How can we help?

Below is a list of the types of work commonly completed at homes which could lead to disputes:

Exterior

Footpaths and Edgings. Are there cracks appearing in the footpath? Did the tradesman use the wrong materials? Has the condition deteriorated quicker than you think is normal?

Conservatories. Is the finished product the same as in the quote or estimate? Does the glass fit correctly or is the conservatory drafty?

Driveways and Garages. Subsidence on your drive? Garage door that doesn't open?     Roofing and Guttering. Roof that doesn't keep out the rain? Gutters that don't drain? What a pain! Poorly completed work to your roofing and guttering has the potential to cause large amounts of damage to your property.

Drains and Flood Damage. Do you think that works have affected the drainage or flood protection for your property? Don't wait for the next downpour to find out. Contact the Construction Claims Team for advice on what to do next.     Windows and Glazing. Does the wind rattle through your new windows? Did they fit the wrong windows? We can look through your papers to see whether the tradesman should come back and put it right.

Extensions. Extensions can add value and space to your home without the expense of moving to a new home. You need to make sure you have the correct planning authority and any work is completed within the authority.     Fences and Gates. Whether for security from prowlers or to keep your best friend from wandering fences and gates are an integral part of any property.

Interior

Bathrooms and WCs. The combination of heat and moisture can often lead to more serious damage than in other areas in the house. Make sure your throne is working properly.   Heating/ Hot Water Systems. The efficiency and control of your heating and hot water can make big differences to your bills and your carbon footprint. Bad installations can be dangerous and cost you money.

Plumbing and Draining. Blocked up? Bad drainage? If something goes wrong with your plumbing it can potentially wreck your life.   Painting and Decorating. Did you think the 'Canary Yellow' looked better in the sample pot than on your living room wall? Want to know where you stand with having your painter cover it up?

Gas Works. There are potentially lethal dangers that can arise from dodgy gas works. Always make sure your plumber or gas fitter is registered and qualified to carry out the works.   Kitchens. In today's busy world the kitchen is often the focal point of the home. It is important that all the appliances work correctly and safely and any installation or work is completed as agreed.
