The Law Society is the representative body for all solicitors in England and Wales.  Nobody is entitled to call themselves solicitors unless they are registered with the Law Society.  We are registered with the Law Society and are governed by their professional rules.

All solicitors in England and Wales are required to be insured against professional negligence claims under the Solicitors' Indemnity Insurance Rules.  Insurance is normally obtained through an approved insurer, however firms who cannot obtain cover can obtain insurance through the "assigned risks pool".  Premiums in the assigned risks pool are considerably higher and the firms in this pool are regarded as high risk.
