All solicitors in England and Wales are required to be insured against professional negligence claims under the Solicitors' Indemnity Insurance Rules. Insurance is normally obtained through an approved insurer, however firms who cannot obtain cover can obtain insurance through the "assigned risks pool". Premiums in the assigned risks pool are considerably higher and the firms in this pool are regarded as high risk.
